The Body Remembers First

Before the mind catches up.

Before the words come, before the knowing lands —
your body already knows.

Maybe it starts with a tight chest.
Maybe your stomach flips when you see someone’s face.
Maybe you cry and don’t know why.

The truth is: your body always remembers before your mind does.

Why?

Because the body is ancient.
It carries everything you’ve lived, and everything your ancestors couldn’t process.
It holds the memory of love.
Of fear.
Of grief.
Of places you’ve been.
Of people you’ve met.
Of things that haven’t happened in this lifetime — but still echo in your cells.

Common Signs:

  • You feel emotion before you understand it.

  • Your body tenses around certain people or places.

  • Your heart races, but there’s no “logical” reason.

  • You’re drawn to places, songs, textures, or names that feel like home — without knowing why.

  • You get sudden shivers, tears, nausea, or bursts of energy when you hear a certain truth.

You’re Not Overreacting.

You’re remembering.

The nervous system reacts first — the mind just tries to make sense of it after.
And often, the mind will talk you out of what your body knows.

Don’t let it.

A Gentle Practice:

  • Place your hand on your chest or stomach.

  • Breathe.

  • Ask: What are you trying to tell me?

  • Let your body answer — in sensation, not words.

It might say:
“That place doesn’t feel safe.”
“This person reminds me of someone from before.”
“We’ve been here.”
“We’re home now.”

The remembering lives in your tissues.
The truth arrives through your skin.
Let it speak.
